Frequently Asked Questions
WHEN IS THE SOCCER SEASON? The season begins early August and runs through May of the next year. High School age teams break during high school soccer season and return to club usually in mid-February.
WHERE ARE GAMES PLAYED? All games and tournaments are out of town, mostly in Tucson but some teams may travel to Phoenix and out of state for weekend tournaments depending on the level of the team.
WHAT DAYS ARE GAMES PLAYED ON? League games are played on Saturdays. Usually only Tournament games are played on Fridays and weekends
WHAT AGE LEVEL TEAM WILL MY SON/DAUGHTER BE ON? The Arizona Soccer Association switched over to the calendar birth-year team formation system. This means that your son or daughter is grouped with other players in the same birth-year (example, all players born in the year 2004 play on same team). If there are not enough players to form a birth year team player’s will be placed on the next oldest team.
DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN TOURNAMENTS? Yes, most teams select 2 or 3 tournaments to compete in during the Fall and another 2 or 3 for the Spring. Each team is responsible for selecting and registering for tournaments.
HOW MANY GAMES ARE PLAYED IN A SEASON? For Fall, a team will generally play 6 league games, depending on age and division. For Spring, a team will play another six regular season games.
WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT LEVEL? CAC’s Travel Program is intended to provide a competitive soccer experience. Players and coaches are expected to attend all games and practices. By signing up to play, you are acknowledging that you understand the importance of consistent attendance in the overall success of the team. Expect 2-3 practices per week plus out of town games and tournaments.
DO YOU HAVE TRYOUTS? Yes – CAC requires all players who wish to play on one of our higher-level teams to attend tryouts. Tryouts are held in May each year in order to effectively place players on the correct team for the following season.
HOW ARE COACHES SELECTED? CAC requires all coaches to be licensed and pass background checks. The ASA (Arizona Soccer Association) provides specialized coaching courses which provide our coaches with adequate training and preparation. CAC pays for this training. Trained and licensed coaches are then assigned to our competitive teams by our Director of Coaching.
